Very attentive staff, great food and comfortable surroundings.
Spaghetti Whiting is the specialty. What a dish.
One word best sums it up - sensational. Ordered the seafood platter and a dozen oysters Kilpatrick. Both dishes were simply delectable and well worth the money! Great ambiance, friendly and helpful staff and delicious food makes this restaurant the complete package. My only regret is that I hadn't been sooner - Piccolo Mondo is certainly one you should not miss out on!
MoreGreat food. Excellent service.
Really bad manner and customer service. So rude. Never come back again.
Amazing food and great service. Also a delight to eat here. Their mussels are a must try dish!
MoreLove the pasta meal and eggplant there thank you pino and joey for the wonderful service
MoreThe food was just amazing. I could eat this everyday?
Food is great ! But one of the waiters, i think he's name is frank is a disgrace not only was he rude but when i paid the bill he asked for a tip! And when i declined to do so, he's response was "why wouldn't you", management should reconsider his employment as makes customers feel uncomfortable!?.
MoreGreat customer service very nice food
Amazing traditional Italian cuisine. A wonderful place to spend the afternoon or evening.
MoreGeat food and great service.
Great Italian food. Highly recommend. Renate & Jack
Great food ?
Great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend
I've dined in this little gem several times over the past few yrs. We celebrated last day of 2020 in this restaurant, aside from knowing they offer authentic italian cuisine, I also wanted to support our local businesses. I'm bit surprised reading the last few reviews. While perceived services can be quite subjective (mine have always been quite good, and was good to catch up with the owner, Pino), the food is quite italian. Italian cuisine, based on my interpretation and extensive os traveling, has always focused on bringing out the most original flavour from its simple ingredients that make up Italian dishes, hence pizza you have in Italy- 3-4 toppings at the most on a thin crust base; same with those pasta dishes at Piccolo- simple ingredients but robust flavours. Price is reasonable, definitely not cheap cheap but definitely not on the expensive side, i.e. some upper class Italian would charge $50-60 for a main, in which is too justified depending on its location and customer base. To Pino and his chefs: pls keep the recipes of your menu offerings as what they are, people who know Italian cuisine would cont. to appreciate, and it's us who will return again and again to support your business, not some casual diners who think what italian cuisine should be after having too much pizza hut, domino's, or la porchetta
MoreThe food was great but the owners or managers (not sure what their position is but they are an older male and female) were incredibly rude and disrespectful to the staff. I saw them speak down to them in front of customers and belittle them. It was very uncomfortable and awful to see, especially when they were doing such a great job! Only problem with the service was those two.
Morebeautiful food lovely staff!
AVOID THIS PLACE! WORST PLACE ON LYGON ST. PERIOD. We were recommended some dishes and told that they were the best dishes on the menu, so we took their recommendation and ordered them...Honestly, it was the most bland meal I have ever had at an Italian restaurant. Heavily overpriced, small portion and the staff were incredibly arrogant & rude the whole time. When it came to paying they asked for a tip, I declined of course and the waiter was incredibly rude in response. These people are delusional
MoreAn Embarrassment to Italian Cuisine & Service! Heavily overpriced, super bland food (Im not a chef and I can cook more flavoursome pasta at home) and the staff were incredibly rude & confronting. Do Lygon Street a favour and close down your shop for good!
MoreThe owner of the store said drinks were free if we got something to we got something to eat and we ended up paying $50 disgusting behaviour absolute scam
MoreFantastic food and service.
Great Italian pasta and very good service
Our favourite restaurant! Amazing food and even better service!❤❤
Had a lovely lunch on Tuesday, sitting outside watching the world go by. The waiter was friendly. Gnocchi, mussels and calamari teamed nicely with a great wine. Aaahhh Marvellous Melbourne!
MoreLygon street is hit or miss and unfortunately this one is a miss. The food is essentially RSL quality except $20 more than a pub. In saying that, I paid $25 for a warm chicken salad that had 3 boiled up pieces of chicken on a handful of leaves. My partner got chicken and avocado creamy pasta (i don't know what it's actual dish name was) but the cream sauce had 0 flavour and tasted like a good old tub of Bulla thickening cream. Enough about the food - the service was just as bad! No warm greetings, no covid safe practices in measure and a very chaotic atmosphere, feng shui was totally off. I like to pay for an experience just as much as I am the food (like a lot of us) so usually I wouldn't mind paying $25 for a salad because there are salads made with love. However this place is clearly a money craving joke. It's not a good thing our food came out 5 minutes after ordering, just worrying... Anyway, I don't recommend eating on Lygon street. I've had 3 similar experiences now. Officially worth either going into the city or Fitzroy. Although we ended up having a dope feed at Cinema Nova, which was the only reason we were down on Lygon anyway. EDIT: Just noticed a heap of similar reviews. Funny the restaurant don't respond let alone listen to the tough criticism but thanks the few applauses. This place is a serious joke, to the owner - shut down and retire to build a veggie garden in your backyard. Start fresh
MoreAbsolutely sensational service and the food delicious beyond expectations. Best in Lygon Street. Definitely be back. Enjoy all
MoreHonestly, my friend and i were highly excited about coming into the restaurant as we'd been approached another night about how amazed we'd be by the food so we made a mental note about going again and did so only a week later. Once we made our way up, the owner made a good impression on seating us and ensuring we'd have a great night otherwise they would 'comp our meals if we were unsatisfied,' which is what we were also told the week before when the male approached us. That being said, we seated and the lady was a great salesman and ensured we ran a good tab. That being said, my cocktail was watered down as well as my friends coke which he also mentioned was flat and we had to ask for water which was not immediatly presented to us. Then our Aranchini balls arrived which the owner raved about being an amazing dish. Half way through the apetiser, my friend found a hair which was obviously cooked into the food and when we told the lady she blamed that something fell in it because we were sitting outside and did not take any ownership over it claiming that 'it cant be them as all their chefs wear hats' and offered us a fresh plate and we said no as our mains were coming, but then turned around and offered us back the plate with hair on it so we could eat the salad. After being a bit disturbed by her customer service, our mains finally arrived and my torttelini bolognes was incredibly cold and obviously not prepared and served fresh. They returned it, obviously only warmed up and not freshly made again, but we just obliged as we were too hungry to object. Not only were we dissapointed by the food, but the lady was also agressivly coughing for most of the time without having her mask on and did not pull herself away from customers at such moments and she kept nagging and bother another waiter and essentially consistently telling him off in front of everyone, ruining the experience. At this point, my friend and I could not wait to leave so we asked three different staff members for the bill and still had to wait well over five minutes for it. Then, we noticed that the Aranchini balls were still on the bill, even though we found a hair in it. After asking a waiter about it, the boss lady came back to our table and extremely deffensivly refused to take off the entree as it was only one ball that had hair in it and it 'was not their fault' and she offered us another one but it was on us for not saying yes. After being really rude to us and making a scene about the entree, she only took $6.00 off our bill to round it off, even though she said before seating us that if we were dissatisfied, she would comp us, which was a clear lie. My friend and I both work in hospitality and understand that things happen, however it was the poor customer care and respect which disgusted us and left us appauled, ruining our whole night. We really wanted to love this place and make it a regular however we will never attend again and if we pass and they try to sell us again, then we will have no problem telling them exactly how we feel. Save yourself the hassle and don't even bother supporting such a rude and disrespectful restaurant.
MoreFantastic experience, thanks to Shane and Maddy !!
They do not practice good covid safe methods! One time the person that brought our food was not wearing a mask, there were more than 20 people inside the restaurant, there was no hand sanitizer available. I would not recommend this place during these covid times! The scampi pasta was ok but was quite dry so my friend actually didn't eat half of it! Oysters were good. Overpriced for the level of service and food.
MoreThe food tasted great, but you barely get any of it and it’s so expensive! Honestly such a let down for the price! Ordered the garlic prawns which were advertised as being king prawns but honestly just looked like frozen prawns from Coles. Very yummy sauce, but $30something dollars for like 8 tiny coles prawns and a cup of rice is insane! Didn’t even come with any chips! A friend ordered the chicken schnitzel which didn’t come with any chips either. Absolute scam for the price! Tiny portions, no sides, so disappointing. Will never be returning! I’m happy to pay for good food, but at this price I expect to not leave the restaurant still hungry! Also, my god they didn’t follow COVID rules at all! Staff not wearing face masks, at one point 30 people in one room (not supposed to have more than 20), no hand sanitizer available. Just disappointed overall.
MoreFantastic waiter, fantastic food, came out quick, out door seating terrace is perfect in nice weather. New favourite destination on Lygon street by far
MoreMy wife, friends and I went there on Saturday night for dinner.it took a long time to bring our food. My wife and I ate chicken parmisan and we both have been sick and food poisoning for 2 days. Worst experience ever. Check the rating before booking.
MoreQuite disappointed with my experience at Piccolo Mondo. Waited 2 hours to be served while watching staff get yelled at by other staff in the middle of the restaurant. VERY uncomfortable to witness. Not to mention staff approaching my table with masks below there chin. Was hoping food could save the night but was presented with bland fish and mixed leaves. Please rethink before booking!
MoreMy friend and I ordered the $33.5 chicken Parma but were displeased so we returned and asked not to make another. We were approached by the owner and instead of being apologetic he was rude and said there’s nothing wrong with and that we’ll get another even though we insisted on just canceling them altogether. The lasagne was nice though. Good size but a bit pricey
More1. Too expensive for the quality and size of the food 2. Rude staff
The Italian seafood in Melbourne is very good and serves Italian style.
There was no pizza ? at a Italian restaurant :( :(
Horrible experience at Piccolo Mondo. A staff member dropped a glass of red wine that smashed onto our table and the contents of the glass stained and damaged my designer handbag along with clothing of my friend and I. Staff member was unapologetic and sent the manager to my table who offered to keep the bag and have it cleaned which was not an option for me - other than this option was advised “there’s nothing we can do”. After being charged the full price of our meals minus the spilt glass of wine, I asked to speak with the manager/owner to discuss the damaged caused by their staff member. The lady I spoke with was extremely condescending, rude and quite frankly aggressive and refused to provide me her name. The cost of repairs and dry cleaning which came out of my own pocket was hundreds of dollars. Save yourself a disaster evening. Do not bother.
MoreA warm and welcome Italian restaurant, we had absolutely fantastic food and the portions were reasonable for the price. The finesse that went into making it was complemented by the flavours and Maddy was very hospitable, offering us free wine and complementary bread to start our meal, with 'digestivo' spirits on the house at the end (loved your home made limoncello). This restaurant is well deserving of its ratings. Thank you again Maddy! Cameron and Michael
MoreAbsolutely beautiful food. Best service I've ever had!
Freat gist and good food. Enjoy the specials.
Food is excellent and with a cool late night atmosphere with blend of soft music and tasty cocktails
MoreAmazing food, very friendly staff, must try, l highly recommend them
Really beautiful food.
Great salesmanship (in luring us into the restaurant), outstanding service, and very tasty food! We really enjoyed the atmosphere as well.
MoreLooked at many Italian restaurants on Lygon St. and this one was very genuine. Seafood was superb and the pasta melted in my mouth. Food was authentic and so delicious. Service was fantastic. Would definitely visit again.
MoreLove there coffee and hospitality
Had a night out on Lygon street last night looking for somewhere nice to eat for the 5 of us. The lady out the front saw us cross the street to walk past the restaurant. She stood in front of us and didn't let us past and did the big sell. She was very confronting and in your face, needless to say we continued on down the street and enjoyed a meal at Universal. Yes we did have to line up to be seated but the food did all the talking!
Morethe best service by the nicest people and very delicious food, can’t go wrong with the oysters or basically anything :)
MoreThank you for being with us!
We will call you back!
